Preventive Oncology

‘Prevention is better than cure’

Barasat Cancer Research & Welfare Centre, as part of Preventive Oncology, has concentrated its attention on the vast area comprising remote Rural Areas including peripheral villages and the Sunderbans (inhabitation in the deltas of Bay of Bengal) for conducting the Cancer Awareness Programmes, year after year. The slum areas also are included into the Cancer Screening Programmes with remarkable result. Well-equipped teams comprising Specialist Doctors, Trained Medical Technicians, Nurses, Video Technicians, Poster artists, Social workers etc. take part in the Awareness and Detection Programmes.

The Scientific Officers and the research personnels of the Dept. of Preventive Oncology of BCRWC play a vital role in the matter.

The proposed work of preventive oncology of this organisation are :

  • Role of HPV as the causative agent of oral cancer and cervical cancer.
  • Prior detection of gene mutations leading to breast cancer of women.
  • Mass awareness generation against different types of cancer and their early detection.

In this connection we have already taken some projects and workshops. Regarding Cancer Awareness and Prevention of Cancer the following image of our socio-economic life-reality may speak for itself to get a clear photography :
